Although it gets its common name from its scent of Lemons, Lemon Balm is actually part of the mint family. During its long history Lemon Balm has not just been known for its reputed medical benefits.
The Ancient Greeks used to plant it near bee hives and actually rub the leaves on the hives as it was thought that it helped to keep the colony together and encourage other bees to join it. Lemon Balm tincture could assist in the treatment of fevers and colds, indigestion associated with nervous tension, excitability and digestive upsets in children, depression, mild insomnia and headaches. Externally, it might help to treat herpes, sores, gout, insect bites and to act as an insect repellent.
15 - 25 drops to be taken in a little water or juice 2 - 3 times per day.
