Basil

Part of the mint family, Basil comes in many shapes, colours, sizes and flavours.

Believed to have originated on the Indian sub-continent, where it is still revered as a sacred plant today, it worked its way into Europe through the ancient civilisations of Egypt and Greece where it became entrenched in culture and folklore.

Now a staple ingredient in many of the cuisines around the Mediterranean, the most commonly used variety is sweet basil. With its delicate anise flavour we only use sweet basil in our Hambleden Herbs dried Basil. Perfect for tomato-based sauces, salad dressings and marinades, these ground organic sweet basil leaves are a kitchen essential.
